Cree culture
Cree artists are known for their quilling, woodcarving, and bead work. Crees in Quebec made wampum out of white and purple shell beads. The designs on wampum belts often represented a person's family or told a story. Storytelling was very important to the Cree. The Cree did not write down their stories as we do today, they passed them down orally through generations. The Cree did not have a writing system till the mid 1880s, when it was introduced by missionaries. The Cree also enjoyed making music.Long ago mothers sat by the fire and sang or hummed songs to their babies. Women sang while they scraped and sewed skins.
