Woman's roles
Cree woman had a variety of jobs. They were mostly in charge of the camp. They snared rabbits close to the camp and fished a little. They took care of the children and cooked. They also gathered plants to eat and herbs to use for medicine.
Men's roles
Decisions in the house were generally made by the men. They were in charge, even though the woman were not denied freedoms. Men were basically in charge of hunting and fishing and sometimes went to war to protect their families.Hunting was hard work. In some cases, men were gone for days to get a large animal such as a moose that would provide a lot of food. Men trapped fur bearing animals, and made snow shoes and tools.
Children
Cree children had more chores and less time to play. Many boys liked to go hunting and fishing with their fathers.Girls were taught by their mothers the skills they would need when they grew older. But Cree kids did have dolls and toys to play with, and older boys liked to play games like lacrosse.
